How to Clean Perspex Sheets
When discussing how to clean Perspex Sheets, it is important to know that more care must be taken than with regular materials like wood or glass. What to do
One of the best ways to clean your acrylic is to use soapy water with a micro-fibre cloth. Using washing up detergent will create a soapy lather, whilst the micro-fibre cloth will deal with any dirt that is sitting on the panel. In addition, the micro-fibre cloth can be used for dusting and lightly wiping any dust or finger prints from the material. Also, if possible, handle the edges of the panel rather than the face when the film is removed. This prevents scratching the face of the material when the protective film is removed and avoids any fingerprints. Working with the material when the film is on will fully protect the face. Once any machining or fabrication is done the film can be removed. If you are selling the products online, remove film stickers can be added to the film, then the product is protected during transit.
What to avoid
Never use a scouring pad or anything abrasive to scrub your acrylic. This will leave deep scratches that you will be unable to buff out. Some small scuffs and scrapes can be buffed away. But this can effect the smooth face of the material and the longevity of it. Also, do not use any harsh chemical cleaners that are solvent based such as bleach. These can make the material craze on the edge, this is extremely noticeable on clear and tinted materials. These will also damage the surface of any coloured material, leaving it looking discoloured and unloved. When machining or fabricating the material, the film should only be removed at the very end. The corners can be lifted to check the material’s colour or finish, but should be kept on for machining. If it is removed, the likelihood of it being dropped, chipped or scraped is increased massively.
